letter to the voters

“Between the great things we cannot do and the small things we will not do, the danger is that we do nothing.” - Mainspring of Human Progress - Henry Grady Weaver (December 23, 1889 - 1949)

Dear Voters of District 16;

This letter is written with three specific goals in mind. First, to introduce myself, Elizabeth Allan Hodge, as a candidate for State Representative, District 16. Second, to let you know the things for which I stand. Last, to encourage you to get involved, ask questions and get to know the people you are voting for so that when you exercise your right to vote, you will be informed.

To begin, I am a wife, a mother and a grandmother. I am also a businesswoman who has been working in our community as a Realtor since 1989. Serving on the board of Realtors for ten years, one of my main focuses was that of supporting private property rights. I am a former state legislator, having served in the Idaho House of Representatives 1984-1990 from Canyon County. After retiring from public service, my husband and I moved to Ada County where we have lived and worked for the past 18 years.

I believe in our representative form of government and in the unalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Our Declaration of Independence states that: “to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.” This means that those who serve in office, receive their authority to govern, from the people, and are answerable to the people.

As a Republican, I believe the proper role of limited government is to protect our rights and to be responsible with the public treasury. Like its’ citizens, government should not be allowed to overspend. As an American, I also believe that it is my duty to exercise the right to vote for the person I think best represents these principles, irrespective of party affiliation.

If elected, I will work to honor the oath of office taken by legislators to support our Constitution; established to “secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity“.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter of introduction. Please feel free to write to me with any questions or comments.

Respectfully yours,

Elizabeth Allan Hodge
